If you're talking about US born riders, I would tend to agree. However, as
far as Motorola goes, I really like what I see in Andrea Peron (Italian).
True, he didn't do as well as Lance in the Mountain TT in the Tour Dupont,
but I think once he gets his TT skills honed, he'll give Lance a good run for
the money. He has proven that he can stay with Lance and even held himself
back in the tour while he was wearing the yellow jersey so that he could
keep Ekimov in check. What a classy move! After he realized Lance had
a good enough lead, he left Ekimov in the dust.

-1 agreed... Motorola looks like a monster this year, lots and lots
of strength. There are quite a few pros that can give Lance a run
       for his money.

re; classy move... unfortunately it's his job. my guess is that if
Peron continues to ride well and improves he'll leave Motorola for
       another team.

the TdF ought to be a major test for both Motorola and Armstrong.
i'm really looking forward to it!

I agree, I was thinking the same thing as I was entering my reply.

Lance looks like he's in great form, I'd love to see how he does against
Europe's best. Can't wait for the TdF!

On the TdP coverage someone said that Peron tests better in physiological tests
than does Armstrong. (FWIW only. Please let's not get into the argument about
the importance of tests, mind vs. body.)

As far as the strength of Motorla is concerned it seems to me that they have
their "A" team with all their top riders at the TdP where other teams have split
their rosters between Europe and here. For example, Toni R. is at Tour de
Romandie. I guess this makes sense being that Motorola is a US based team.

Still, the real test is performance in Europe.

How old was Lemond when he finished his first TdF? (Yeah, I know we're not
supposed to compare the two but I can't resist.)

Well, probably not to a whole bunch folks' surprise Lance pulled off
Dupont with 2:00 over the field.

I couldn't find the last two stages on TV. Anybody know what happened?

ESPN played some of the later stages at funky times. I missed the Beech Mtn.
stage because I forgot it was on at 12:30 am.

I think ESPN2 carried Tour DuPont coverage at 7pm last night
and it was replayed on regular ESPN at midnight.

I posted all the stuff that happened over the weekend in
    cycle_racing notes conference.

Lance attacked with 1.5 miles to go and soloed to the finish
at Beach Mtn. Ekimov won the time trial Sunday but still lost
the race by 2:30 or so.

A sports programe in the UK has a short profile on Lance Armstrong this

He doesn't look the normal shy reserved type we europeans are used to
    ;-).

    That's because he's a Texan...
They don't allow shyness in their male offspring
(actually don't allow it in their female offspring either)
If for some reason a shy person gets into town, the mark him as
