	Effective Cycling Course

Contact: Dave Brown 603-889-5088 (Granite State Wheelmen member)

The complete 10-week, 30-hour League of American Bicyclist's
Effective Cycling course will begin on April 27, 1995 in Salem,
New Hampshire on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m.

The LAB's (nee LAW) Effective Cycling is the only bicycle proficiency
course that is nationally recognized.

The program will be divided into three sections with the participants
riding or working on their own bikes at least 50 percent of the time.

The first 6-week section concentrates on bike handling and traffic
skills, and on basic bicycle maintenance items such as flat tires and
tube repair, chain cleaning, and basic equipment safety check. The
three week bicycle maintenance section covers hub, bottom bracket and
headset maintenance and wheel truing. The tenth week is the optional
test for national certification.

Contact Dave for cost or other details.

I talked briefly to Dave the other day, the first session (with good
weather) will be partly on bike and partly in the classroom. He will focus
on bike handling skills. (so that means, you need your bike, shorts,
gloves, helmet,.... but probably the HR monitor won't be needed :)

The class will meet at 1 ??? Road, i cannot remember the name, if the
weather is good otherwise you meet at the Salem Racket Club. The location
is just off of I-93 Exit 2 in Salem NH, you head west, at the light past the
interchange, you go left and left again into the first building, that is
where the riding will start. If you go right at the light then you'll
head toward the racket club. BTW it's on the other side (west) of I-93
  as the NIO facility.
