I did a directory search but didn't find anything like this. I have a friend who wants to start a local bike touring company. Personally, he has lots of years of experience with biking for recreation. However, what is hanging things up at the moment is the insurance needed before he starts a local tour. Regular insurance companies are not the correct ones to use for this. However, he doesn't know which ones are. Regular insurance companies want outlandish amounts for liability. Several bike touring companies charge 1.00 to 3.00 a day for liability on their customers. Does anyone know (and provide names and addresses) of the companies that Bike Vermont, etc. use? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Contact the League of American Bicyclists at 800-288-2453. They use an insurance company that charges reasonable fees ($1/member/year for affiliated clubs; $1/rider for a club event with a fee). Rich

Thanks for the information, but..... I called them and they gave me the name of their insurance company, American Speciality Insurance, in Roanoke, IN. 219-672-8800. I called American Speciality and they are no longer doing commerical touring, only non-profit. Also, they couldn't refer me to anyone who does specialize in this. Does anyone know or can find out for me, who Bike Vermont and other outfits like that uses? Thanks.

I think your friend could do this... If he affiliates his company with a cycling club that belongs to L.A.W. (and for the PC folks out there L.A.B. - can't get past this) I think insurance would be included (membership) or a break anyway. Chip |
