2812.0. "Bonehead Hollis Police Officer" by DELNI::CRITZ (Scott Critz, LKG2/1, Pole V3) Mon Jul 11 1994 12:46
Saturday, I rode from Nashua, NH to Peperell, MA and back on
Rte 111.
Just before the NH/MA border, a Hollis police officer passed
me and then turned left onto Chapman Lane, which is a Y to
the left off of 111. Just before I got to the Y, the PO
made a sharp right, 120 degree turn, across Rte 111. At
first, I thought the PO was going to make a U-turn. However,
the PO headed into the driveway on the NW side of the road.
What's the big deal? I was still heading down the road, and
came to the driveway just as the PO did. Needless to say,
there were squealing brakes (mine) and some yelling (me).
Such a stupid, bonehead move. When I finished the ride, I
immediately called the Hollis PD and asked for someone
in charge. The officer said there was no one else there
and what did I need. I told him what had happened. He
suggested I call Chief Darling 8-)> on Monday.
I called Chief Darling. He was very apologetic and said he'd
talk to the officer.
Other than the incident with the PO, the ride was great.

2812.1 | Similar Situation with Hollis PD! | ASABET::HUNTLEY | | Mon Jul 11 1994 15:10 | 21 |
| I had a similar incident, only much more serious, with the Hollis
Police about a year ago. An off duty officer yelled at us as he passed
us and then pulled ahead and told us to stop. We did not know who or
what he was - no ID from him. As we tried to pass him, he grabbed my
friend's arm and flipped him off his bike- front wheel came right up
and he went over backwards! It got pretty serious after this- we still
didn't know he was a police officer until a local resident, who was a
witness, started yelling at him and asked if he identified himself as a
police officer.
We also went to the Police station and, because it involved an off duty
police officer there was a big cover up. Eventually, I had a face to
face meeting with the Chief and explained the officer's action. He was
pretty receptive. It turned out that this "part time police officer"
had been involved in other situations. It turns out a friend of mine
had a bad situation with the same plice officer when he was off duty.
We figured out that he was one of these off duty cops who's always
trying to push his weight around.
I know he got suspended for the crap he pulled on us!

| Yeah, one of the Hollis Heat have harassed groups for "not riding
single file" which seems to be a local ordinance. I think he expected
to look down a line of riders and be able to see a single rider profile.
