2764.0. "Tour Dupont Coverage?" by ASABET::BJOHNSON () Fri May 06 1994 11:27

    I beleive the Tour Dupont started yesterday. I haven't seen
    any info on TV coverage anywhere. Does anybody know if there
    is any coverage planned? If so, please advise.

    Thanks,

    Bob

2764.1CBS "Eye on Sports"NEMAIL::BUXTONFri May 06 1994 12:124
    I believe CBS is carrying it on the weekends on its "Eye on Sports"
    show. It's on Sunday afternoon sometime.

2764.2Check Winning and/or Velo NewsLASSIE::ZIELONKOFri May 06 1994 13:214
ESPN 1 and @ are carrying it. Check the latest VeloNews and Winning for the
schedule. VeloNews has it in the "cycling on TV" section which is on the first
page of the calendar section. Winning has it in its special TdP feature section.
Winning only has the ESPN 1 air times whereas Vnews has both ESPN 1 and 2

    	There's a note in the bike racing notesfile.

    	Bobby Julich won the prologue.

    	After Stage 1, Alcala is ahead on GC.

    	ESPN is showing a half hour most every day.

2764.4How about 5/9- coverage.KYOSS1::BOYLEDirty Jobs Done Dirt CheapMon May 09 1994 09:129
    I found coverage (at a very convenient time 8^) ) all last week.
    However, when I look this week, all I get on ESPN is Hockey coverage
    8^(....

    Anyone know where/when to find TdP coverage week of 5/9-

    Thanks in advance,

    	Sorry, I forgot about Alcala. He won the prologue.

    	Currently, Malcolm Elliott (GB), who rides for the LA Sheriff's
    	team, is the leader on GC.

    	Nothing much happening yet. That should change with the hilly
    	days.

    	After Monday's 22.9 mile TT, Ekimov is leading on GC. I think
    	he did something like 57:17.

    	LeMond lost a couple of minutes.

    	You never know when ESPN is going to show coverage. At the end
    	of each broadcast, they tell you when the next coverage is.
    	However, this time is usually wrong. So, I look in the TV Guide,
    	like I did for yesterday's stage. It was supposed to be shown
    	this morning at 12:30 AM. Of course, I figured the hockey
    	game that started at 10:30 PM would last until about 1:30 PM, so
    	I set the tape to tape from there on. Nothing about the race.
    	So, I guess I won't get to see Stage 6. What a mess.

    Just watch the hockey as well then. Sheesh, you guys don't know how
    lucky you are...

    	Yeah, I went to a fight the other day and a hockey game
    	broke out.

    	I like college sports. Forget the pro sports (except for cycling).

    I heard that that joke was now being reserved for baketball...

    Greatest hockey league in the world and their still not happy... :*)

    	Well, I did get to see Stage 7 to Beech Mountain.

    	Lance Armstrong won the stage. Ekimov and a German (or Austrian)
    	rider were right behind him.

    	125 miles with about 5 major climbs, Beech Mt being a 1, I
    	believe.

    	Viatcheslav Ekimov wins the Tour DuPont over Lance Armstrong.

    	I'm not sure of Ekimov's time in the final 16.6 mile TT, but
    	Lance was losing time during the TT (and started 36 or 37
    	seconds down).

    	I think the Motorola team was surprised at how well Ekimov was
    	able to shadow Armstrong.

    	LeMond was not impressive.

    Slava's 16.6 mi TT was in the low 34's, like 34:05 +/-.
    I thought Lance's was 34:52 but got disagreement when I said that
    so I'll have to waith for the print media. :-)
