I'm trying out Campy Ergo levers, and I've got a question the previous Ergo notes don't answer. My mildly arthritic hands have never been bothered by Shimano STI, but there seems to be more pressure needed and more vibration resulting from Ergo shifts. My fingers tingle at the end of a ride (they're tingling now, in fact). Any other Ergo owners experienced this? I've heard the levers feel "silky" after a while. If so, how long does it take? Or do your levers feel pretty much the way they did when purchased? thanks, Justin

The Ergo clicks can be quite abrupt; I know what you mean. But my Veloce shifters click with a slightly 'blunter' feel now, like something inside has become a little worn (hey, we all know that feeling). Maybe that's the silkiness you're looking for. Rod

I've been told that when the levels are new they haev a tendency to do that, but if you use a little grinding compound on the gear/teeth it will break them in a little quicker. Tim

You will definitely begin to feel much more comfortable with the levers. I'm not sure how much of it is breaking the levers in, as much as it is finding out the smoothest way to shift with them. The difference between the angle you use is what will make the difference. ie: I used to push downwards - this didn't always result in a smooth shift and my hands felt it. Now, I push forwards as I push downwards. Ths had made a world of difference. This shifting is now much more comfortable. I hope this helps you out. cheers, -Rich |
