Help... I will be riding to work every so often (which means I'll be starting off in the dark). I was given a flashing amber light that looks as though it'll be just fine. The problem? No bracket (for mounting) or belt/strap (for wear). I really don't want to mount it my MERLIN. You know, weight and all that :-)... So, does anyone know where I could buy (or put my hands on) one of those stretchy belts that are commonly used for this purpose????? I went through the cycling catalogs and...Zipp. Any alternative ideas will be greatly appreciated as well... Thanks, Chip

Am I correct in guessing that this light is based upon high intensity LEDs? If so, then you will generally be more visible if you mount the light on your bike rather than your body. The LEDs are highly directional, and mounting such a light on your body can often result in the majority of the light pointing at the sky or the ground instead of the traffic behind you. There are (bicycle) mounts available which you can attach and remove from the seat-post quite quickly if your primary concern is the visual esthetics (sp) of your bike. Rich

I'd agree about putting it on the bike and not you. My Cat-Eye LED has a seat post mount (but my tub bag gets in the way so it has to go on the rear triangle). Anyway, if you are wanting it on you, I presume that you are looking for a bungee. Try a mountaineering shop... Graham.

I bought some Velcro straps from CAMPMOR (Paramus, NJ) to hold a light on my arm. Most of the time I also carry a fanny pack, which also has a Vistalight on one of the straps. KB

I'd recommend you attach - silicone rubber is good - a small flat mounting surface to the back of your seatpost. Onto this, silicone-rubber attach a Velcro strip, or two strips, that cover it. Then the mating Velcro piece is similarly mounted onto the back of your light. You can then just slap it on and take off, without fooling with mounting brackets, screws, etc. A broad expanse of Velcro has good holding power and should keep your light attached if it's not heavy. |
