What does "time period" mean here? This period is certainly longer than 132
hours.

| It means that you cannot start before 01/Jul or finish after 15/Sep
(which is mostly impossible because of snow) chosing any time during
this bracket you then have 132 hours to get from the lake to the sea.
I've spent time looking at the maps for this one and looks really
nice...

| Yes, it's total elapsed time, just like the Raid Pyrennean, you can do your
own thing like ride day and night until you drop or organise it in stages.
Our schedule is aimed at 105-110 hrs. As Rod says, if you look at the
Galibier for example, there is no guarantee that the snow will be cleared in
time which is why they suggest the dates.
We expect to be doing it sometime after the Tour because some of those
interested want to combine it with a see-the-Tour trip. Our schedule is
aimed at 105-110 hrs.Working on the famous 10:1 ratio extrapolated, I would
expect anyone wanting to take it on to have at least 4000km in the legs from
Jan 1, and also have experience of a 200km day with 2500m deniv.

2500m deniv? You mean that you expect them to come from France then?
:*) I struggle to find roads round here to do that in a month... :*(

case where the French is less wordy than the English explanation because I
don't think we have a single word which conveys so much ;>)
PS the full word is d�nivelation, which is shortened to deniv (or divilment
if you are Irish).......

| So it sounds like the check points are manned during the whole time period and
you may do the ride any time inside that period? there must at least be someone
at the start and finish for the whole 6 week span, no?

| No, it's much more informal than that. If it's like the Pyrenean Raid, you get
a 'carnet de route' which has space for stamps at all the checkpoints. When
you get to a checkpoint, say the top of a col, you walk into the summit caf�
(you'd probably do that anyway, let's face it) and you get the person behind
the counter to put their shop stamp on your card. That's what you do at all
the checkpoints, including beginning and end.

| Sorry, but it's a lovely word you can really put a lot of feeling into - it
covers all types of swindling, fiddling and shady dealings. J_q_es Me_d_c_n
and Bernard T seem to be the leading exponents in France at present.
PS Cheating the Revenue (Income Tax?) is not escroc, it is called the
National Sport. (and they are better at it than they are at Le Foot).
