Did anyone do the Nashua Mine Falls race this weekend. It was the 4K run, 20K MT Bike and 4K run. The reason I'm asking is that I was planning on doing it but didn't at the last minute. I got a map of the trail which consisted of a large loop (4.6 miles) a small loop (2.0 miles) and a path into and out of the transition area (.6 miles). I heard that the bike part was 3 loops but I'm guessing that it was two large loops and 1 small loop because 3 large would be 2 miles to long, two large and 1 small is a bit short. The reason for asking all this is I'm trying to get an idea of how I would have done. If it was 2 large loops and 1 small then I was in ok shape, the winner did the race in about 1:15 and I would have been about +1:20 but 3 long loops and I would have been about 20 minutes behind the winner. Thanks for any input Alan

The Mine Falls race consisted of a small loop of ~2.5 for each of the runs, and three laps of the larger loop for the bike. The cyclist only used the paths to the start/finish area once, not on each of the three laps. Therefore what appears on the map to be a loop of 4.6 miles is the correct total loop - but was ridden sort of like 4.3, 4.0, and 4.3. The small loop was for the run only. The winner did the bike leg in about 46 minutes. The fastest cyclist was probably my mixed team partner who did it in 44 minutes, with a cyclocross bike, not a mountain bike. | |||||

I didn't count the tar path into and out of the transition area as part of the 4.6, I did the large loop from the spot where you would take a right off the tar all the way around back to that spot and got 4.6 on my computer, from past comparisons with my truck if anything my comuter is a little short not long. So if the bike ride was 3 large loops then the total mileage was 14.4 miles for the bike (3 loops @ 4.6 and doing the transition loop once for .6) All I can say is I'm even more impressed by the 1 hr. and 15 minutes winning time.
