I want to buy a hybrid bike whose frame angles mimic a road bike, rather than a mountain bike. So far the only manufacturer I've found that does this is Bridgestone (I'm looking at a Bridgestone X0-6). Does anyone know of a similar manufacturer? Eric

Just a thought... Why don't you build one? Many good, used low-mileage road bikes are available for cheap. Put a flat bar, thumb shifters and low gears on it, get some 700x32 cross tires and you're off! I set up an old Nishiki road bike like this. It's a blast around town and on dirt roads. I'm running 700x32 Avocet cross tires. They have inverted tread, much like a car tire. They run smooth and quiet on the pavement and dig enough on gravel to keep me upright. You have to watch what you spend, though, you could get carried away and invest as much as a new cross bike would cost :-). Ed.

< RE:0 Check out the Schwinn Crisscross. Its leans towards a road bike more than a mountain bike. Jim

My new GT Cirgue is similar to what you are looking for. My thoughts anyway. It's a hybrid with different gearing, narrower tires like the Avocets, etc. it's really setup more for the road than the rough stuff. Bob |
