2677.0. "Murphy rides a bike" by NOVA::FISHER (US Patent 5225833) Thu Sep 16 1993 12:46

NOTE 2673 and others address the Do's and don't's of "Your First
Century." What other things are as much in the realm of superstition
    for you?

For example, yes, if you wear a new brand of socks on an important
ride you will probably discover some severe problem like chafing or fit
or something else. But what about just a new pair of socks of the same
type you always wear? Well, Linda and I have learned that:

"If you wear a new pair of socks, it will rain."

For example, in Linda's recent "record setting crossing of North
Carolina" (officiated by John Lee Ellis before he moved to Colorado),
we observed the road conditions, mud, etc, and she said "Of course,
    I was wearing new socks."

"If you forget your rain jacket, it will rain."

This was so consistent for Paul Morrisette that I told him he should
cut his jacket up and sell little pieces of it, and if that worked for
all of us, we would have him declared a Saint.

"If I forget my pump, I'll get a flat." This is so consistent for me
that it seems to be a self fulfilling prophecy.

    Wherever I go in '93 it'll rain.

Maybe not the same week, but it'll rain...

John Lee Ellis moved to Colorado? Which city?

(I know, this is off the subject. I can't think of any of my
own superstitions right now. Except maybe this: if you consciously
think about the fact that this head-wind will be a tail-wind on the
way back, the wind will definitely switch directions.)

John has moved to Loveland, CO, where his SO has found a new job.
They are expecting to find a more permanent residence near there.
