2662.0. "MOAB" by AKOCOA::FULLER () Fri Aug 27 1993 15:53

I was just given "permission" yesterday to go to the the Moab mountain
bike festival at the end of October. Has anyone gone there before?
Would my long wheelbase Fischer Mt Tam with simple flex stem
handle those trail conditions?

being only 8 hours away I have been there for 3 3 day trips. I would recommend
the Slick Rock and Beond book. It has a good list of trails that takes 3 other
books to cover. The Trails Unlimited map was very valuable too.

It would take 2 years of full time riding to cover all if the trails w/in 1
hour of Moab. I fully intend to visit many more times.

	Steve -- you might try posting your question in the
	PEAKS::COLORADO_BICYCLING conference. Moab is close enough to
	Colorado that many people go over there for long weekends & have
	lots of info on Moab that I'm sure they'd share.

	I would think a long wheel-base and flex-stem would be excellent
	for some of the long, jarring downhills over sand/rock combinations.

2662.3MOAB - trail recommendations?STAR::TRNADO::BREAUThu Sep 23 1993 13:3720
 My wife and I and 3 nephews are heading out west in a few weeks and are
 planning on a day of riding in the MOAB area. We are looking for some
 recommendations on trails to ride - but nothing as challenging as Slickrock.

 None of us have much experience riding trails and we are looking for a scenic
 trail that is moderate in terms of difficulty. The boys range in age from 16 to
 19 and I would say we are in fair shape. Also, one of the boys has a mild case
 of asthma - and he smokes!

 Right now we plan to rent bikes from Nichols and we are considering a guide.

 Questions:  - trail recommendations?
             - any experience/knowledge with Nichols?
             - should we go with the guide or not?

 thanks,
  bob
