2608.0. "John Torosian" by NOVA::FISHER (DEC Rdb/Dinosaur) Mon Jul 12 1993 08:42
John Torosian, President of the LAW, died in his sleep around the 1st
of July.
John had solicited support for his Pedal for Power ride hoping to raise
$50000 to present to LAW prior to his retirement from the Presidency.
I am told that he had a flu like illness near the end of the ride and
that he wanted to return home early rather than at the end of Pedal for
Power. He put in 2 180 mile days and returned home to Atkinson, NH.
After the went to bed, his wife heard him snoring. A half hour later
when she heard nothing, she went in to check on him and discovered
that he had succumbed.
John's leadership restored the LAW to a balanced budget and established
the LAW as a strong lobbiest for cyclist's needs.
I first met John in 1983 when he and 3 other cyclists rode NH
end-to-end, 232 miles, in 14:15. I am told that this was only a few
years after having a quadruple bypass surgery and discovering cycling.
John will be missed.
