Does anyone have an opinion on the Miyata Titanium model? I test rode on at the local bike shop this weekend and was very impressed. They run $2000.00 new and I was wondering if anyone out there owns or knows someone who owns one. I am looking for general opinions and some idea of how durable this model is. This is a good deal of money to invest without any background on the bike. Thanks in advance for your inputs. Jim

Don't know about the Miyata specificially, but Mountain Bike Action has an issue out that is dedicated to titanium bikes and components. It had descriptions, prices and specs on most titanium models. Fat Chance now has a gorgeous titanium frameset and bike! In the $2000 range, they also mentioned the Diamondback Axis TT and the Raleigh (2 models- forget the names). The Raleighs were made from Russian titanium and the 2 models were about $1500 and $2500 if I recall. They recommended the $1500 as a good value. Mike

re: .0 Are you talking about a racing bike or a road bike? Miyata made a titanium road bike but not a mountain bike, according to my 1991 catalog. Andy (Miyata steel road bike owner, can't help with Ti)

re:-.1 Yes, they do make a MTB this year. I found that issue of MBA and the model that they make is a 26 pound bike that retails for $2150 which is an excellent proce for a Ti MTB (complete bike). Re-reading the original post it occurred to me that the post could be referring to either a road or MTB (although the price range made me assume it was in reference to the MTB). The Miyata has a noticibly tall head tube for an MTB. I wonder what the thinking was when they spec'd that?? Mike |
