Does anyone have a Thule or Yakima rack system installed on a late model Ford Taurus wagon (with the factory luggage rack)? If so could you please indicate what the proper railset or equivalent components are? I've been calling various dealers for both and cannot get a consistent reply...all the way from "sure, we have the model #xxx in stock" to "nope, they don't make one" (both re: Thule). I want to carry three bikes and basically know what mounts I want but fixing them to the car is apparently another story. I'd also like to lock the racks to the car. Any help is appreciated. I'd prefer to mail order but don't dare unless I can supply part numbers. Thanks. Steve

You may also want to look at Raqdaptour, which makes conversion kits for factory-installer roof racks. Raqdaptour 8957 Sepulveda Blvd. Sepulveda, CA 91343 (818) 894-7576 (800) 568-7676 ? | |||||
2580.2 | Thule part number for Taurus brackets | ATIS::BODGE | Andy Bodge | Tue Jun 01 1993 10:57 | 13 |
I have a Thule catalog which shows brackets "designed specifically to complement a Mercury Sable or Ford Taurus luggage rack." The part number is "541 (1050-38)" and it's called a "Taurus/Sable Adapter Kit." These are the side brackets; the cross rails and everything else are standard. The catalog isn't dated but I think it's two or three years old, so the information may be stale. Thule's information number is (914)592-4812. I don't have one of these myself (or any Thule rack, for that matter) so I can't tell you if it really exists. Andy |
