I notice that neither Sky Sports or Eurosport are showing La Vuelta. Last year it was shown by Screensport, who have since merged with Eurosport. I'm curious why this is so. Eurosport show a lot of cycling events. Is there another European Satelite channel which is showing this race? (I got my hopes up last night when I turned on Super channel and saw a sprint finish, only to discover rather quickly that they were showing, for some obscure reason best known to themselves, a stage from last year's Tour Du Pont!!! Can there really be a European channel worse than Super?) Patrick

I think it was a financial problem. Unipublic who organise the Vuelta have a bloated opinion on the race's status. They think that it's a lot closer to the Tour and Giro than what it really is, as this years field shows (for those who don't know, they had to increase the teams to 10 riders to get a field of 170 riders and some of the teams leave something to be desired, eg the Austrian squad Varta). I think that they wanted more money for the TV rights than Eurosport felt was worth it. Last year, right up until the Amstel Gold, Eurosport were showing the Vuelta before a last minute back out...
