From what I remember reading when I was looking for a bike, I thought
that the Bridestone was heavier than a Schwinn Crisscross or a Trek 720.
The $325 price is about the same as the Schwinn and Trek as well.
Other than that I don't know how it rates.

Most of the hybrid might be lighter then the BB1 due to the rim and
tire weight. The BB1 has a 26" wheel/1.5" tires vs. 700cm/35c tires
on most hybrid.
But if you look at the components on the BB1 (Shimano 300LX vs. Suntour
XCT on the 720). T would think the BB1 will shift a lot smoother.
The BB1 will be a little more stable of a bike due to the wider tires,
but it will be slower then the bikes with 700c tire.
$325 is a pretty good price. You might be able to find it $10 to
$20 lower but you will probably spend that on gas and energy doing the
search.

Well actually the Trek 720 has Shimano, Schwinn has Suntour. My wife
has a Trek and I have the Schwinn so I get to ride both for comparison.
Shifting is about equal except that the gears are reversed from each
other. The Schwinn High is the Trek low. The Trek is more of an off road
hybrid whereas the Schwinn is more of a road hybrid. The rear derailleur on
the Trek is better sealed for dust protection, but the Schwinn has a
gear ratio that is better for speed. The Trek crank set is brushed metal
where the Schwinn is chrome plated.
There are plus and minus on both which equal out.
Your probably right about the weight differences. I was relying on my
memory from reading about different specs in a bike magazine.

2536.5 | SUNTOUR vs Shimano | KYOA::BOYLE | Dirty Jobs Done Dirt Cheap | Wed Apr 21 1993 22:29 | 13 |
| I have the CrissCross and have been riding it for 2 1/2 years. I
noticed that after the first 200 miles, the rear derailleur can not be
adjusted for "smooth" operation in all gears. As a matter of fact, I
can get smooth operation in any two consecutive gears with all others
sounding and feeling like it wants to change gears. I brought it back
to the shop and the mechanic stated (must have been a bad day) that the
SUNTOUR XCT/XCM components were crap. He did the best he could but
nothing can be done.
I'm not sure if everyone has these problems, but if I could do it again
I would go with Shimano....

| Hope this does not turn into a Shimano vs whoever debate, those things
can inspire passion. But if things do get out of hand, make sure that
the Knives, guns and whiskey are hid.

I hear what your are saying. I've been through this type stuff in other
hobbies and sports. People tend to buy things with their personalities
attached and hence take offense to any negatives about the product.
As far as Shimano vs. Suntour, I don't care. I've bought one of each. These
are my first bikes and I'm sure a road bike is gonna be in my future
so I'll look for the best performance and quality in the product.
