| Yup, I've managed another 85 miles since the end of the RAID (September
6th). I'm far too busy suffering from the stress of not cycling enough
to waste time in notes. 1071 miles yet to make the 5000 target. Maybe I
should take a late-season bargain-trip to Majorca.

| I'm still here too. I've done good mileage since the end of the Raid but
it has become hard to get miles in since the clocks changed, besides which
winter has arrived early here: there's lots of snow in the hills and it
rains every weekend. I'll have to turn to swimming or something. Yuck.

| When did you change your clocks over there? We "fall back" one hour
tomorrow night, Sat. Oct. 24. The extra hour sleep is nice but it's
going to be really dark after work.

| Something wierd is going on... I'm reading 10/23 notes today
(which is 10/27) and I did get caught up (or so I thought)
yesterday.
Anyway, I haven't been on any bicycle since Tuesday 10/13. That week
I had already posted 110+ miles, but my wedding junk interrupted my
riding time.
This week? Just plain lazy, I guess. I am planning on an ATB ride
after work though. I'll just have to scrape off last season's mud
before I head out.
Any more road rides are questionable for me. If I get the notion or
the weather drags me out...

| I'll add my excuse ;-)
I'm much too busy to reply lately but I always find time to read a few minutes
while I have my morning coffee. So you regulars keep up the good topics. I
need my Bicycling notes fix.
Speaking of fixes, I'll be getting a new winter fix this year. I usually ride
all year long on the road. Mostly once the salt hits the road I use my old
beater and pull off the derailleurs and ride a fixed gear. But I've sold my
winter beater and I'm now buying a mountain bike.
Why have I held off this long without a MTB?
Well, I used to ride motocross/enduro motorcycles growing up and I know what
suspension is. My last off road bike was a HONDA XR500. 500cc's of stump pulling
power and 11 inches of front suspension travel and 10.5 in the rear. It was
the Cadillac of enduro bikes.
You see I was spoiled. I've used peoples MTB's and the ride didn't impress me.
I loved the smoothness of road riding and longed for the same off road. That
CLANG BAND rrraaattttle ride was not my idea of fun.
Now I see suspensions are out in full force. Most manufactures this year
will have an MTB with suspension for under $700.00. After market front
suspensions are common place, and the prices are coming down to a reasonable
level.
My game plan is to buy the best mountain bike I can afford and later add an
after market front suspension. This way I can have my standard fork as
a backup to the suspension when it breaks, needs maintenance or when I
don't need it during the winter.
Happy trails
Tom
