| It also made CNN Headline News. The article said that the
problem was because most of the bikes sold in this country
are sold by department stores.
which is undoubtedly true, regardless of what we might think of
DS bikes.

Would all this mean that the price on the existing bikes in the
shops would be reduced since they will be discountinued.
There is a motor cycle shop in Manchester, that also has Schwinn
bikes, a couple of racing models are Ultegra equipted.

| Chap 11 does not necessarily mean that anything will be discontinued.
I thought Nault's bicycle shop was totally separate from Nault's
Mortorcycles. I've certainly never seen any of the motos in the
bike shop.

2430.4 | Sales Rep going after Schwinn Dealers | JUNCO::HUI | | Fri Oct 09 1992 12:30 | 9 |

When I talked to the Diamond Back Rep last week. He indicated that Schwinn was
in bad shape and they might even think about selling them in Sears. Most of the
Sales Rep. are attacking the Schhwinn dealers to get there line in the shop as
Schwinn fades. This is kind of sad considering My first 3 bikes was a Schwinn.

The one I was referring to is Cyclewold on 28 bypass off exit 5 I-93.
They carry motorcycles and bicycles, they even got two names for
shop, Cylcworld and bicycleworld on two difference signs.

| Aaargh! There goes my lifetime warrentee on my Paramount frame!
Too bad, because I love my Paramount Series 3 road bike. It really is
a quality machine and well worth the money.
BTW - I wonder if this means that their Paramount Design Group will
dissolve? I wonder how closely they are tied to the Schwinn parent
company. I know their handmade frames are pretty well respected.

| I imagine that, if Schwinn totally folds, it will be good news to
their established franchisees. They will have an established client
base and will be free from paying Schwinn for the franchise.
It all depends on whether they go "belly-up" or not, I suppose.
I doubt that those franchise payments can be considered receivables
when the assets are liquidated.
There are many "independent" shops around who can offer you a wider
range of bikes. You don't have to wonder why they are pushing a
particular line. Of course, you still run into it when the
"independents" enter an exclusive agreement with a manufacturer.
Usually, you just have to look around the shop in order to tell
who the deal is with ; )

2430.8 | Naults Version of C-11 | GSFSYS::DBLFDG::TOTTON | Nancy Totton | Mon Oct 19 1992 11:44 | 6 |
| We were at Naults last week and asked him about the Chapter 11.
We were told that Schwinn merged with a Japaneese bike company
(can't remember the name, think it might begin with a T) and
that they had filed Chapter 11 while the two companies put
the new organization together. Naults will continue to stock
the bikes.

| SCHWINN SALE: Schwinn Bicycle, in bankruptcy-court protection since
October, was bought Wednesday by Scott Sports Group. Scott Sports, a
division of theZell Chilmark Fund, paid $41 million for Schwinn. The
bid by Scott, which makes ski poles and markets Asian made bicycles in
Europe, was chosen over a $58 million bid by Dore Enterprises -- which
didn't include taking on Scwinn's debts. Ralph Murray was named
President, replacing Edward Schwinn, great grandson of the founder of
the 98 year old bike maker. Zell Chilmark says Scwinn wont be merged
with Scott.
