| Do self energizing brakes have problems when the rim is wet?
Wouldn't you tend to get less breaking power until you get
to a dry spot where the breaks suddenly get a lot stronger?

| I would wonder how well these would work when the rim is a bit out of
true. They would have to amplify such nonuniformities.

I'm not trying to be a wise guy 8*). I had first hand experience
with these brakes last Sat. in the pooring rain and they work very
well. They are on my friends bike and I got to torture test them. He
was raving about them so much I had to check it out. The next day he
broke a spoke and his wheel was slightly out of true and they still
worked well. The price isn't much more than a few hi-performance
brakes and is less than others like Grafton.

When was the last time your arms hurt from braking?
Graham.

> When was the last time your arms hurt from braking?
I guess what I really meant was "my hands", but during my holidays I did a ride
from Morzine to Avoriaz then back to Morzine. That was +1000 then -1000 and
after the -1000 part my hands and my arms were dead from too much braking.
I got to admit that I have some shitty Shimano 300, brake levers (plastic) that
also need to be replaced. Well maybe the bike itself needs replacement...
Thanks Roger, they seemed to be what I need to get
One last question, is there any risk that those brakes would be too strong for
my frame (Specialized Hard Rock Sport 1990)?

It's true Graham, that's a flatlander's question. If you do a lo o o ng
twisty descent, it can really kill your hands and forearms if you're not
used to it.

| Rod,
It's a lie and you know it. I've tried following you down hill and I
*know* that you don't brake.

Def: Pervert = any one having taken part in more than 1 Epervier
Descending from N D des Anges to Plan de La Tour takes as much out of you as the
previous 4 cols. Back, arms, fingers, shoulders.... you name it, instead of a
nice relaxed freewheel of 15-20 km to get a breather, you feel as if you have
been run over by a steam-roller.

2421.11 | the brakes are not the problem. | TFH::DONNELLY | Take my advice- Don't listen to me | Thu Oct 15 1992 11:30 | 4 |
| I contend that the hands/forearms are sore from riding not braking. If
you ride downhill hard your hands/forearms are going to be sore even if you
never touch the brakes; in fact more. white knuckles is what does it.
