2240.1 | Warning: do not touch | COMET::VOITL | | Fri Apr 10 1992 18:11 | 7 |
| Hey Stew,
DON'T attempt this! Just buy new ones. A friend of mine tried to
over-haul his XT stuff when it really didn't need it and he ended up
throwing them away and buying newstuff. Putting them back together is
near to impossible.

| There are about 35 parts in the STI Rapid Fire system. I wouldn't touch it
unless it was broken.

It is possible to take it apart and reassemble it, although not
much fun. I've done it to unbend the lever.
It won't do much good to take them apart if something's broken,
though, since Shimano won't sell you parts. They only sell them as
complete units.

2240.4 | I may have to... | SOLVIT::CAMPBELL_S | | Mon Apr 13 1992 18:13 | 12 |

Thanks for the warnings. I had read similar warnings on the Shimano
documentation, but naturally figured that someone had tried it. I may
have to attempt something on them anyhow. The levers have gotten a
bit "sticky". The bottom one in particular tends to stay "pushed"
after it is pushed, and has to be pulled back. It's not broken but
it it getting to be a pain.
re: -.1 If it's possible to do are there any tips???
Thanks!

2240.5 | There are repair kits. | NOVA::FISHER | Rdb/VMS Dinosaur | Tue Apr 14 1992 06:47 | 6 |
| One of my STI's came "broken" and was replaced as waranty. But the
mechanic told me that Shimano had uncharacteristically sold STI repair
kits. I figure they'll stop selling repair kits just as the STI's
start to wear out and have been replaced by STI-II. :-)

2240.6 | sticky -or_bent- levers? | DOGONE::WOODBURY | | Tue Apr 14 1992 15:17 | 8 |
| Stew,
If you stopped running into trees and flinging your bike
into rocks at high speeds with only your body to protect it,
the levers, shifters and brakes would probably work better...
