2234.0. "Rides in Maynard/Marlboro area?" by TOPTEN::PLEVA (Ron, in Princeton NJ) Mon Apr 06 1992 15:20

    I am looking for information on club rides both weekday and weekend
    while attending training in Maynard for 3 weeks beginning April 27.
    During this period I'll be staying at DEC sponsored housing "Royal
    Crest Estates" in Marlboro.

    I am interested in looooong distance weekend rides, 60-100 miles and
    weekdays I'd like to ride 20-30 miles.

    Thanks for any info...

    Ron

2234.2but, what would the rental car do?YNGSTR::BROWNTue Apr 07 1992 12:5212
    Not club workouts, but...
    Plenty o' trails behind the Maynard training facility (PKO);
    strictly mtn bike material tho.

    You could always commute (@7 miles one way) from Marlboro (Hosmer St)
    and come up into Maynard (PKO3 has 4 showers now), but you get the
    choice of Rt 62 or Rt 27, neither real direct, and both fairly busy
    and narrow. Again, if you had a mtn bike, there is a direct trail
    on an abandoned railroad line that ran along the Assabet River and
    connected Marlboro/Hudson to Maynard (the Mill actually), but you'd
    have to ride on backroads for about 3-4 miles to get to it from Royal
    Crust.  .02 -kb
2234.3GSW has long [and shorter] rides.NOVA::FISHERRdb/VMS DinosaurFri Apr 10 1992 08:314
    We have centuries, more or less, around Southern New Hampshire. One of
    those days we even have one from Boxborough, MA.

2234.4Are these rides still alive?TOPTEN::PLEVARon, in Princeton NJTue Jul 13 1993 13:1410
    Can anyone tell me if the MRC/SPoke "N Wheel racing club still runs the
    Wednesday 6pm 9.6 mile Time Trial in Marlboro and/or the Thursday 6pm
    20 mi ride around Wachusett Res?

    I will be in Maynard for the week beginning Sunday July 25 and I intend
    on doing the "UWHBR" one day and am looking for some other organized
    weeknight activities if time permits.

    regards,
    Ron

    Anybody know the exact meeting place for the Spoke'N Wheel Thursday

    Dunno the answer, but some sections of Rt70 are currently torn up;
    sort of dangerous too since you're forced way into the road.

    P.S. need a quickie resevoir water stop? The Sterling Post Office
    (assuming you take 12/62 instead of 110) has a tap on the side
    of the building. The town of Boylston also has a small fountain out
    in front of the police station. KB

    Entered without the authors permission..... I like the graphic....

  From Rt 495 take Rt 290 west. Take the Rt140 north (boylston) exit.
Go about 2 miles down the hill and take a right at first set of lights.
Follow this for about 3-4 miles until you see Tahonto Regional High school
on your left. That is where we meet, start and finish.
