I'd like to know, too. I have Shimano Exage 300LX in front, and Exage 400LX
in back. That's just the way my bike was originally equipped. The gears
shift, the brakes stop, what else can one ask for?? :-)
I have a problem spending a fortune on components for my mountain bike
given the abuse it must take. Unless the components really absorb the shock
and stress THAT much better, why spend the money?
Now, if the components are noticibly more responsive, or are truely stronger
and more resilient, then it becomes worth it, in my mind.
Later,
Andy

Thanks for the replies,
Will I really notice the difference say in drivetrain ...(wow it feels
like a new bike) or is it just better quality materials.
It costs a far bit for parts down here is Australia so you have to
be sure.
Eg: DEORE XT rear deurallier aus$ 80-100
DEORE XT front deurallier aus$ 40-60
Bikes as a whole are just so much more expensive.
I brought a cro-mo 300lx groupo $580 ( that was cheap ) most 300lx
series bike cost about $650-$750.

I agree that on the average Volkswagen is cheaper than BMW;
I'm not so sure about aspects like reliability.

what it meant but I wanted to ask why they accepted Australian
currency. :-)

The exchange rate these days you will get $1 australian for
US 78-80C
Re .7
At this stage I don't intend to upgrade,The question was
purely a hypothetical one.To really determine what sort of noticeable
diference would be seen between the 300lx and DEORE XT.
......
Can anyone who has used the 2 groups make a comment .

| Hi Jan,
I guess I should of said a 700 series BMW to the average run of the
mill VW. Just my 2 cents.
