2093.0. "Looking for a Club..." by CGVAX2::THOMPSON_L () Wed Sep 25 1991 16:44

    Does anyone know of any clubs or organized groups that are available for
    bicycle riders (besides the DEC ski club), that maybe does weekend
    trips along with different activities such as hiking, cross country
    skiing etc. Not looking to spend a lot of money, but have a lot of
    fun. Would like for it to be more of a "singles" group rather than
    couples.

    Appreciate any help you can give me.

    Thanks,

    Nancy

    	Well, Granite State Wheelmen is the club for you. All
    	kinds of activities and the president is our own
    	Ed (NOVA::) Fisher.

    	You get a bi-monthly newsletter with ride schedules
    	and weekend activities and the like.

    	If Ed doesn't reply to this note with the name of the
    	woman in charge of membership, I'll put it in tomorrow.
    	I know her last name, but forget her first name and
    	phone number.

2093.5The Appalachian Mountain Club is good too.ICS::WARDThu Sep 26 1991 17:3016
    The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) has both Boston and New Hampshire
    Chapters. Membership is about $40, and you get a monthly bulletin with
    a listing of bicycling, hiking, cross-country skiing, and windsurfing
    trips that are run for free or at cost.

    The AMC has a social orientation, i.e.; people introduce themselves
    on trips and try to stay together. It can be way to get to know
    what an area offers in the company of knowledgeable people who
    can be a lot of fun.

    You could call club headquarters on Joy Street in Boston for more
    information.

    Good luck!

2093.6Weekend activitiesNOVA::FISHERRdb/VMS DinosaurTue Oct 01 1991 07:509
    Our (that is, The GSW's) weekends almost always include on and off road
    cycling. Frequently include hiking. Seasonally include skiing. Eating
    is frequent.

    A typical population is 60/40% male/female with about 40/20%
    unattached. I would not consider it a mecca for for the singles scene
    however romances have been known to blossom.
