    	Hi,

I recently bought a Peugot 653 Athena (which I am very pleased
with) but find when I am in friction mode (I do have some 6 sp
wheels) honking up hills causes the gears to drop into a higher
gear after a while unless I put some more pressure on the gear
lever. This only helps until it starts going again!! Not ideal
for long climbs...It is not the new 7 spd cassette system but
    	the old index system (non-cassette).

Any experience , help would be appreciated.

    	Cheers Dave.

| Seems to me that you need more friction in the system. Is there a screw
you can tighten to stiffen up the gear lever?

| I rebuilt my C Record shifters in the spring. I am having the
same problem from time to time (mine are all friction). The
brass washers and other parts are compatible across CAMPY's
shifter offerings. Take them apart and check out the guts.
I'll bet some of them are chewed (I had one that was ground to
    invisibility - GONE!)

Unfortunately, it's inherent. However, I do find that a well
lubricated chain helps avoid this almost always.

Thanks for the help so far, I have already tried uping the
pressure on the screw but will try some more , the contents
should be o.k. as the bike has done only a couple of hundred DRY
SUNNY miles !! Clean GT85 lubed chain..

    	Cheers Dave.
