I read with interest the note on buying a bike, as compared between the US and UK. I am having similar experiences with equipment, par exampleer: Onza bar ends start at: 25.95 or $ 42.18 For chromoly ones!!! I want Ally 45 or > or $ 74.25 Are they any cheaper in the States and if so does anyone have a copy of a brochure for bits and bobs as above for bikes ? Regards, Mike Lawson RDL3F UK

However, the prices you're quoting for the Onza aluminum bar ends are a bit high. I paid ~32 for mine a month ago. If you're wondering if they're worth it, the answer is YES. So, shop around, or, better yet, get them from the U.S. somehow. Tim

Your savings may vary... The last time I mailed bicycle components to a noter in England, the customs folks opened the box attached a tariff invoice before sending it along. :^(

I can't remember exactly. I think I was charged 12 duty on a transaction intended to cost about $30. I don't know how they arrived at this tarriff/tax/bold-faced-ripoff, but it seemed pretty arbitrary. Rod |
