Just a quick question. I ride a hybrid with 700x38C knobby tires with Araya VX-300 rims. I would like to lower my rolling resistance and smooth out the ride (I ride mostly on pavement and hard dirt). I want to switch to the Avocet Cross tires advertised in Bicycling. My questions are: 1. Does anyone have experience with these tires? What are they like? 2. Can I switch to a thinner tire 35 or 32C in width and will it make a substantial difference in rolling resistance? Thanks in advance :') Jack (1000 Miles and still rolling!!!)

Jack, You will not have any problems going down to a 35C or 32C. Rolling resistance with definitely be decrease from the knobby and it will be more quiet (no humming sound). With the zig zag tread on the Avocet, hard dirt roads of trails would not be a problem with this tire. Dave | |||||

I recently installed Avocet Cross tires on my mountain bike and have been very happy with them. They roll easily on the road when inflated to fairly high pressure and they performed well off road on a recent vacation trip to Idaho where we rode some pretty rough trails. |
