I am considering buying a new bike carrier. I have a Yakima But I want to get something that will fit my 79 280Z and cars/vans/stationwagons I rent on trips. I saw an add in Performance Bike for the "Enflight" trunk rack that mounts the front wheels by quick release fork mount holders. Looks good in the add and I think I saw one once on a passing car and it seemed ok. Looks like it would solve the sway problem of other trunk mount racks. Does anyone have one or know of anyone who does? Is it a good rack? Is it easy to mount to a wide variety of vehicles? I called the manufacturer and the input is that it fits all but a corvette and vw bettle. Thanks Mike

I don't know if it's the same rack but my brother got one that fits your description for his Mazda Protege. He seems pleased with it and mentioned that he took it out with 2 bikes and tested the stability around fast corners. I don't know what he would do if it failed, but he was happy with the results. thanks for the input. I will order one this weekend and see how it performs. One nice thing about ordering from Performance Bike is the "no questions asked - you must be satisfied" guarentee. Mike | |||||

I did get the rack. It did not fit my 280Z (louvers interfered), it did not fit my Mazda MPV (rear winshield wiper interfered). It did fit my Camry. It is very light and does not give a high level of confidence but it did work. Had a scare right away, the quick release furnished with it popped open twice after it was loaded and I replaced it. I tried it a few times. My riding buddy did not like putting his bike on it (just thought it too flimsy) I sent it back to Performance today. I put this note in just in case someone is interested in the future and does a subject search. Mike |
