1849.1 | How about bike pooling? | GSFSWS::JSMITH | EIS/E S.A.F.E. Program Mgmt. | Wed Feb 20 1991 10:21 | 12 |
| re -1,
I don't have any info on the route but if you were looking
for a potential riding partner on the trip down I'd be interested
in discussing the options with you. I've always wanted to do the
North South but have never had the time to do the full route and
having a support vehicle for a partial trip like the one you are
planning is difficult to come by. Perhaps there are other Digits
out there that would like to band together for a week and do something
like this with a rental van. If we had 7 riders we could alternate
driving the van one day of the week. Any interest?

| >the 'must ride' parts of this route?
I'd want to take a couple of days down the Blue Ridge Parkway, Shenandoah
Nat'l. Park road, etc.... 100 miles in a day of this would be plenty for me;
your mileage may vary. I'd plan for doing it mid-week, as it can be busy
car-wise on weekends esp. holidays and leaf-peeping time. Couple of
pleasant climbs, fairly long but not too strenuous through the area. We
were able to do about 70 miles last time I was there with full touring kit
(tents, etc.)....

| John Torosian of Atkinson, NH, used to do this once a year. You
might be able to get some info from him. He is Pres of the LAW
and may even have good route sheets now that Pedal for Power is
also doing it.

1849.4 | North ---> South | CSSE32::SMITH | Reality, just a visible imagination? | Wed Feb 20 1991 13:04 | 19 |
| Re: .1
I will either be tenting, trailering or moteling. Not sure yet. It will likely
be in August. Other that that its nothing more than an idea at this stage. I
would welcome a riding partner(s) and my wife could carry a couple more bags in
our car, but not alot. Also I planning on being gone 3 weeks. Cycling on the
way there for a week, spending 1 weeks there and driving home week. So I
couldn't provide a partner(s) transportation home.
Re: .2
Thanks...
Re .3
A route sheet would be nice. Can you mail me John's address and/or Ph#?

1849.5 | Bikecentenial Maps | GUCCI::MHILL | Carpe Diem - ride, ride, ride! | Tue Feb 26 1991 09:01 | 4 |
| Bikecentenial publishes great maps. They have a North South set. It
dosen't go the Keys though. About mid-way through Florida, the route
heads SW toward the Gulf. You can find their address in most bike mags
or it may be in this file.

I used the Bikecentennial maps to cycle cross country last summer.
They were great. I also have maps from Va to Maine that we could
probably copy (they are the Bikecentennial maps). The number to
order the maps is 406-721-8719.
For a nonmember of Bikecentennial, cost for all maps is 34.95.
Route is called Eastern Seaboard Bicycle Route. Distance is 2440
miles -- from Bar Harbor, Me to Ft Myers Beach, Fla. Maps come
in 2 sections (ME to Va which I have and VA to FLA).
Send me mail if you need more info.

1849.8 | East Coast Bicycle Trail -- LAW | ULTRA::WITTENBERG | Uphill, Into the Wind | Thu Feb 28 1991 17:59 | 5 |
| The LAW used to (10 years ago) have a route called the "East Coast
Bicycle Trail" which might be what you want. I'd call LAW for
info.
