I got my Diamond Back @ Steve's Mass Transit 508-481-8147
Good price on a 1990 leftover and I like the bike.
Steve's is in Marlboro 10-15 miles from Littleton.

Try Pedal Power in Acton (next town over from Littleton). They are
open weeknights till 6:00. I think on Thursdays they are open later
(8 or 9 o'clock). Telephone (508) 263-3197. If you let me know
which Littleton facility you'll be at, I'll post instructions on
how to get there.

| I live in Nashua, New Hampshire, and work in Littleton,
Massachusetts. So, here are the shops I would suggest:
Pedal Power, Acton, MA (508) 263-3197
Gamache's, Fitchburg, MA (508) 343-3140
I bought my last bike (a road bike) from Gamache's in
Fitchburg. I think they are a fine shop.
Pedal Power is easier to get to. I don't know anything
about them or their prices.

The 1991 Bridgestones are in. They will also be carrying the Bianchi

1763.8 | Good deals to be had | BAGELS::GOTANTAS | | Thu Oct 18 1990 12:04 | 8 |
| I second what .4 said about Gamache's...they have a good selection of
bikes and parts, and have a very good service dept. I'm not sure what
they have left for bikes now, but they are giving up to 30% off on
bikes (road and mtn) in stock.
Gamache's is in Fitchburg, MA...about 20 miles from Littleton.

| I've had very good luck with Belmont Wheel Works, in Belmont, but
it's about 35 minutes from Littleton. I disagree with the
recomendation for Lincoln Guide service, I've had rather poor luck
with them.

Are you expecting one store with a large selection for
you to browse through? Or are you willing to go to many
small shops with limited selection?

1763.11 | Take it to NH! | CIVIC::VOGT | | Thu Oct 18 1990 16:56 | 13 |
| If you want to avoid MA taxes (or just avoid MA!) go on up to
Hillsboro, NH (about 1 hour 15 min. from Littleton). The Ped'ling Fool
Bike Shop is outstanding. Our family has purchased 10 bikes from him
from Fat Chances on down. Service is very accommodating! The shop
owner, James, last year discarded his touring bike after 32,000 miles!
For you MB racers he sponsors several accredited races each year (big
names) and anyday (with about 2 min. notice is ready to go anywhere -
preferably up and in a hurry!). Some serious riders in that area. Way
out of my class.

1763.12 | Closer to Boston, lower prices | IAMOK::WESTER | | Thu Oct 18 1990 17:52 | 14 |
| Well,
Since everybody has more or less listed their favorite bike shops as
opposed to what's "close" to Littleton, I'll add a few more, all in the
Boston area (45 min. or less from Littleton). If you want the absolute
best in terms of variety, price (excluding tax), and selection, try
International Bikes (Brighton), Belmont Wheelworks (Belmont), and Frank's
Spoke and Wheel (Waltham, Framingham). I've listed them in order of my
preference. What you gain at these shops is selection and price. What
you lose is good parking, crowds, dealing with city traffic, and sometimes
gruff salespeople (only at International). Still, if you know bikes I
think the shops I mentioned are outstanding.

My best price including Ma tax was @ Steve's and I surveyed
all the listed shops. At my price range it boiled down to IBOC
comp or Diamond Back APEX The APEX was DEORE and the COMP was
LX the only thing I missed was wishbone rear.

1763.16 | Chelmsford Cyclery | IAMOK::FRERE | Ellas Danzan Solas | Fri Oct 19 1990 18:08 | 8 |
| Might as well put my 2 (in English this time). Probably the closest
shop to Littleton (LKG) and best shop around is the Chelmsford Cyclery.
I found that his prices are one of the lowest and the service is
unbeatable Martin (the owner) will not try to "oversell" something
that you don't need. He's got a great reputation in the area and will
give you the attention that you don't get in a larger shop.

<< Can you post directions to Chelmsford Cyclery for newbies to the
<< area?
Directions to anyplace in/near Chelsmsford center are virtually
useless since the place is a maze with Rte's 110,4,129, and 27
all intersecting at totally random angles.
Chelmsford Cyclery is in a little strip mall on Summer St which is
a right off of Rte 4 in the south side of Chelmsford center near the
Marshalls and Purity Supreme.
Hope this helps..

1763.19 | Excuse me, can you tell me... | IAMOK::FRERE | Ellas Danzan Solas | Tue Oct 30 1990 13:42 | 13 |
| Re: .17 & .18
The directions given in .18 are relatively right on. If you are coming
in from Rte 4 (Bedford), it's a piece of cake, turn right on Summer St.
and it's in the strip mall on your right (2nd store). If you are
coming in from the east (Rte 129), turn left on Grove St (just before
entering the center) which falls into Summer St where the mall is on
your left. If you come in through the center, take Rte 4 south and
just as it becomes a 2-way road, you cross over onto Summer St. If you
come in from Rte 27, drive around in circles for a while then stop and
ask somebody for directions...
