1738.1 | I own a DB | TOPTEN::PLEVA | Fat birds don't fly... | Tue Sep 18 1990 22:24 | 6 |
| I own a Diamond Back Ascent EX that I purchased new in 2/89 for $375.
I have over 2k miles on it and no problems. I recommend DB's.

| VERY nice bike. It's more comfortable to ride than my IBOC, as it
has more "relaxed" geometrey.
The Mt. LX workes flawlessly (sp?)
I recommend the Ascent EX highley.

I don't know about the bike the base note mentions, but since the replies
mention the Ascent EX, I'll throw my two cents in. I just bought one
a couple weeks ago. Although this brand was not my first preferance,
I couldn't pass up the price. I bought a new Ascent EX with
Diore components for $419. It usually lists for $520.

1738.4 | Topanga - similar to Sorento | MOVIES::HOGG | An empty desk, a full wastebin | Mon Sep 24 1990 05:21 | 8 |
| I recently bought a Diamond Back Topanga: looks like the same
frame as the Sorento, but with the Shimano 300-LX gear-set,
and 'Farmer John' tyres. Excellent bike, well-engineered.
300$ does seem a bargain: the Sorento retails in UK for just
under 300 pounds - that's about 540$ just now :-)

I bought a Diamond Back Apex last week. I like it, it's very rugged
I have to keep telling myself it's a bike not a bulldozer as I crash
thru the underbrush on bushwhacks.
I got a great deal @ Steve's Mass Transit in Marlboro as a 1990
leftover. He added a couple of goodies free and service is top notch.
It is Deore DX equipped.

1738.6 | Diamond Back Topanga | BAHTAT::HILTON | Beer...now there's a temporary solution | Mon May 24 1993 09:16 | 12 |
| Any comments on last years Diamond Back Topanga?
I have the chance to get one for 240 brand new, I'm told they retail
here in the UK for 400.
It will be my first mountain bike, I've hired a few before and would
expect this one to take a bit of stick once I'm used to it and fir
enough!

| re: .6, .7
I have a Topanga that I bought 2 years ago. It's pretty much an "entry level"
mountain bike. It uses Shimano 300LX componentry w/ the thumb-operated shifters
(I forget what Shimano's "name of the year" was for those). The frame is
CroMo. The bike is fairly heavy, about 30 pounds. It seems durable - the only
damage so far was a broken rear derailluer when I got a branch jammed in my
chain. I ride it mostly (90%) off-road. Not a bad bike, but I'd like something
lighter, maybe w/suspension.
