Mike,
I hope you're ready for some real heartbreak. I've been looking into this
because I'd love to buy a Cannondale ATB. The cheapest model, the SM-400, is
#525 here in the U.K. and $425 in the U.S. It just isn't fair! I only hope that
you have better luck with the Marin. As you say, it may well be cheaper to fly
over to the U.S. and get one over there.
Can you say 'holiday'?
Cheers,
Tim

Great idea Tim! Then you can pick up your digital cycling jerseys while your
here. Ya, the ones from the FIRST run. :-)

Earl,
The jerseys were a twice in a life time deal that came and left. See note

Yeah, tell me about it. We get the first real summer in the U.K. since the
beginning of the Ice Age and I can't even get a cycling jersey that can take
the heat! Oh well, I just keep telling myself that it hasn't been much longer
than a year and a half since I ordered them. I only hope that it still fits me.
Anyway, my recommendation at this point is to buy a European bike in Europe or
an American bike in the U.S. Pretty obvious in a way. Now, I need to find out
what to buy in Taiwan (or even Canada). It seems you lose out too much on
currency exchange, import duty and who knows what other middlemen driving up
the price. It's just unfortunate that the Cannondale is the model I would
dearly love to have.

According to a buyer's guide, the 90 Marin Pallisades should retail for
$425.00
As an aside, have you checked some of the US mail order outfits?
They're pretty used to shipping everything they sell. Might be
worth a try.

1689.7 | But what about the import duty | HEART::MTHOMAS | | Fri Aug 10 1990 11:39 | 15 |
| Thanks John, that's a useful guideline.
It turns out I'd have to pay 17% import duty and 15% VAT on the US purchase
price, so it's not so much of a bargain after all. Though I'd still save
20%, which would pay for that hard hat my family keep insisting I buy.
I haven't seen any US mail order catalogs - could I order a catalogue
over the phone?
Any comments on the Pallisades? Is it simply a nice paint job?
Mike (to whom cycling jersey's are of little interest, given the condition
of his bike - concentrate, people!)
cheers

That's what I did. I have no idea if they ship overseas tho.
Check out the mail order notes in here (dir/titl=mail produces
58, 207, 1501, 1578). I'm sure they could answer all your
questions in that regard.
I went thru Colorado Cyclist for my MTB, by the way. Last years
model for $300 off the 90 price. They may still have some left.
I'll post the number tomorrow.
>Any comments on the Pallisades? Is it simply a nice paint job?
I've never seen it, but it's seems pricey when looking at
the specs.
