both) of them carries Brooks saddles.

| > both) of them carries Brooks saddles.
Also, if you can't find your Brooks, might consider an Ideale saddle.
These (used to be?) considered to be equivalent quality, with slightly
pre-broken-in leather. Many riders preferred them to the Brooks as they
didn't require as long to begin to be comfortable. Note that both Brooks
and Ideale made some relatively schlocky models for mass produced
lower-end bikes, don't waste your time with 'em.

Brooks. Sounds like your only option is to hunt around and find a shop that
used to carry them has still has one left.

1666.9 | This may not be my week! | CRBOSS::BEFUMO | Between nothingness and eternity | Fri Jul 27 1990 09:27 | 12 |
| Well, I haven't gotten through to Nahbar yet (man, those guys mus be
busy!), however, a VERY kind gentleman who has one & found it too
uncomfortable to bear, is giving it to me! Gee, ain't notes WONDERFUL!
Now, I'm going around in circles trying to find a BELL Premier helmet &
getting the same "they don't make them any more", which usually
translates as "we don't have one in stock, so let us pawn off whatever
we have on you." I dunno, I guess I just must have a taste for the
exotic! However, I'm getting paranoid riding without a lid, so if I
don't find one today, I guess I'm just gonna have to settle for a
Gyro Air Attack from Lincoln tomorow. Oh well - can't always get what
you want, but ya get what ya need.

1666.10 | Bell Premier unavailable | WORDY::GRACE | Wait, I'm LIVING in Grace-land! | Fri Jul 27 1990 13:26 | 10 |
| I spoke to someone at Bike Nashbar that sells the Bell Premier helmet
They said that the reason that Bell isn't making the model available
(and probably won't) is due to the production runs failing the safety
test.
I guess this means there won't be any available, unless someone
straightens things out miraculously and beefs up the production AND
distribution lines.

Oh well.

| Actually, that would have been my first choice, but when I tried it on
I thought that that overhang in the back made me look like "Alien". I
suppose esthetic considerations will become insignificant if I find
myself bouncing down the road on my head.

lite, extremely well ventilated and it doesn't look like a salad
bowl! Nice visible panels too.

Well, you're in luck! That's in style, remember how the press said
LeMond (anyone remember back to when they used ta call him LeMonster?)
was "fat and slow" early in the season? Just think of yourself as a
"Spring LeMond".... :-)

1666.18 | Brooks is ok but Avocet is better | GSFSWS::JSMITH | Chromed Cannondale | Fri Aug 10 1990 13:45 | 11 |

Meanwhile back at the *subject*.....if you can't find a
Brooks and want the next best thing to it in a racing
version try the Sella San Marco....it even has the big
brass bolts in the back just like the brooks. IMO this
is the best looking saddle available today, but also one
of the most uncomforatable...I switched back to my old
Avocet Gel...just like putting on old loafers after taking
off your track shoes......aaaahhhhhh.

| Angle Lake Cyclery in Seattle says that they can still get Brooks
saddles. They said that the distribution channels are changing,
but they expect to be able to continue offering them. (Angle Lake
is a dealer for Counterpoint, Moulton, and probably other wierd
bikes.) Their phone number is (206) 878-7457. I don't have their
address handy.

1666.20 | I now have one of each | CRBOSS::BEFUMO | IRAQnophobia | Fri Aug 10 1990 14:42 | 13 |
| Well re :[.18], I had already ordered a San Marco when I got a line on
a Brooks and a Ideale. I now have the Ideale on my road bike and
absolutely love it. The brooks is slated from my mountain bike, since I
don't generally ride it form more than 10 miles at a stretch. I tried
out the San Marco and found it reasonably comfortable. What I didn't
like about it is that it is not constructed like the traditional
leather seats. It has a plastic pan and leather covering, so there's
really nothing to break in. Seems like it would have all of the
disadvantages of a leather seat without the anticipated advantage of a
personalized fit in the future. Sure looks good, though. My wife took
it, but it now looks like she's going to whimp out and buy a gelseat.

1666.21 | Absolutely LOVE it! | CRBOSS::BEFUMO | I chase the winds of a prism ship | Mon Aug 20 1990 12:22 | 6 |
| Hmm, got the Brooks last week gave it a good application of neets foot
oil, & tried it out on my road bike on Saturday. After a 54.3 mile
ride (my longest to date), I can not believe that SO many people find
these saddles uncomfortable! Without even being broken it I found it
extremely comfortable - even more so than the Ideale, which now graces
my commuter. Ah well, different strokes & all that . . .
