Hiya,
Has anyone out there had any experiences with RIDGEBACK mountain
bikes???
I'm considering the 701LX, it seems pretty good, but I would appreciate
any comments etc as it is my first mountain bike purchase.

No, I have no experience with Ridgeback ATBs. However that won't stop
me from offering free advice!
If you like that bike I'd say go for it. They're well-known here so you
shouldn't have any problems (that you wouldn't be just as likely to get
with any other make of bike). I think Madison (of the Freewheel
catalogue) are the official dealers for Ridgeback, and whenever I've
dealt with them their service has been good.
