| We rented a bike from the train station and were
reasonably impressed.
It was a 10 speed with fenders, headlight, and luggage rack, and
water bottle cage. The seat was a bit tough, and the bike had
definitely seen some milage, but it was quite servicable.
Of course, you're luck might be different.
I'm told that rentals from bike shops in larger cities are
even better.

| Hi Peter,
I was in Bordeaux area last year. The only bikes I saw for hire
were the "heavy" types, but I didn't go out of my way looking.
Have a good time. Will you get to see any of the Tour stages down
there.

| I used a similar thing to .1 when I was in France last year (Annecy). It's
a scheme called train + velo operated by the French railways (SNCF). I got a 10
speed racer with a chain that kept coming off, but I did go quite late in
the day and it was the last one there.
I think it's quite good, and reasonably cheap. Go early and get a decent bike,
and remember to take your passport - they need to write down your passport
number when you hire the bike.

Yes, but with some restrictions.
I think that there are only certain stations that do it.
