1598.0. "gel gloves....are they worth the expense?" by PACKER::JACOBSON () Mon Jun 18 1990 10:13

    Have any of you mountain bikers tried gel gloves? Are they really
    worth it? I saw them in the performace catalog for about $25.

	I don't own a mountain bike, but I do use gel gloves on my road
	bike. Yes, I do think they are worth the price. I was having
	some nerve (numbness) problems in my arms before I switched to
	gel. Once I switched, the problems never returned. I've tried
	both Spenco and Nashbar gel gloves and the Spenco's are far
	superior and worth the extra $$.

1598.2Spenco Palm Pads, yes!BTOVT::MAYOTMon Jun 18 1990 12:007
    I have a pair of 4 year old Spenco pads...they are enclosed in terry
    cloth and cover only the palms, with looped elastic straps for fingers
    and the back of the hand. They are extremely comfortable, and cool
    compared to the usual netting style. I haven't found them available
    anywhere since then...guess I better check the catalogs again.

     I agree with Chris's note. I've switched to Spenco GEL gloves this
    season and found them to be great.

     Last year I tried replacing the handlebar tape with spenco foam pads.
    But they really didn't improve anything other than appearance.

     The GEl gloves are worth the money.

1598.5Even REAL MEN use them 8^)CRBOSS::BEFUMOKnowledge perishes - Understanding enduresMon Aug 20 1990 13:0611
    I used to sneer at guys in the gym who wore lifting gloves - (REAL men
    WANT thick unsightly callouses). Then, about three years ago, I tried,
    and immediately bought a pair, and would never be without them. I JUST
    replaced that first pair a couple of months ago, so whatever they cost, it
    certainly doesn't amount to much over that time. When I first started
    riding, 6 weeks ago, I wore my lifting gloves - (REAL men don't need
    those colorful fancy things - they use PLAIN BLACK LEATHER gloves).
    Then I bought a pair of gell gloves, and guess what - I'll NEVER use
    anything else - what a difference. Gee, at this rate, someday I may
    even start stretching (REAL men WELCOME injuries)
