1563.0. "Rental Shops on the Cape" by CXCAD::CRAFT () Tue May 29 1990 14:05

I'll be in Mass. the week of June 4th. Does anyone in the Boston
area know of a bicycle rental shop on the Cape? Is the Cape a good
place to ride/tour. Any reply is appreciated.

    Thanks, Don

There was an article in last Sunday's Boston Globe about
the Cape Cod Rail Trail and bike rentals shops. If you
send me your mailstop I'll send you a copy of the article
and an old copy of the Rail Trail map.

Wellfleet Cycles in Wellfleet, on route 6, rents bikes (I think).

Wellfleet Cycles is NOT on Rt. 6. It is near the center of Wellfleet
on the road that goes out to the harbor.
Wellfleet does NOT rent bicycles, either, unless they have just
started. I was there this past weekend and they were not open either
    Sunday or Monday.

On Rt. 6 in Eastham at the traffic light just beyond the Lobster
Pool Restaurant (at Ben and Jerry's place) there's the Idle Times
Bike Shop. Those folks have always been real nice to me, they rent,
repair and sell bikes. I've rented a Cannondale trailer there for
    the kids, as well.
That's the closest rental place to Wellfleet I know of.

there was a rental place at the start of the rail trail in dennis.
i think there is also a bike shop with rentals in harwichport.
they are tourist places. i don't think either of these places rent
serious bikes but hopefully decent enough for sightseeing type riding.

also, the rail trail can be quite clogged with families. riding fast is
rude if not impossible. but the cape in general has lots of good roads if
your're this side of orleans. past that i think you run into rt 6 too
much.

Idle Times is very good. They also have an outpost next to
Nickerson State Park. If you can get a site that's the place to stay
Many bikers are ther as the bike trails go thru it and you can go to
the beach directly from the park. The Idle Times rental there is on
    the bike trail.

There are a lot of good places to ride on the outer cape.
The only problem is that to get there you need to ride on
rt 6. It really isn't so bad. The shoulders are nice and
wide. Try to get on it during off hours.

There are several bike trails around province town, Race
         Point and North Truro.

The trails are usually well documented in locally available
         maps.
