Hi, I have the chance of a Reynolds 753 road frame at a very good price but have no experience of this tubing having always riden 531 road bikes. I understand it has far greater tensile strength than 531 tubing but that there are questions about it's stiffness when used in larger frames. The frame I have my eye on is 64cm and I wonder if anyone out there owns a "larger" i.e 60-64cm, 753 frame and what their opinions are about its suitability for these larger frame sizes. I asked the shop concerned who replied that they had sold many frames in this size and had never had a complaint but then nobody in the shop was over 6ft so they had no personal experience of riding one. Thanks for your help, Richard

I thought the only question about its stiffness was, is it too stiff? I've heard of cyclists replacing 753 forks with 531 ones to get a more compliant ride. But it may be that modern aluminium frames have introduced new levels of stiffness and that 753 is less stiff than those (that's a pure guess). Rod |
