1465.0. "Bicycle floor stands" by MISERY::BLUM_JO () Thu Mar 29 1990 04:40

What are the best bicycle floor stands for holding one bike to work
on and their prices? What criteria do you use to determine which one
    to buy?

    Also posted in CONSUMER.

I have the Blackburn floor stand (< $100 mailorder) and am quite pleased. It
be folded up for carrying. I bring it with me on long racing trips... in the
car, not on the bike 8^)

For a good list get a copy of catalogs Nashbar 1-800-627-4227
and Performance 1-800-727-2453 and compare price and mounting methods.
Two major types are the kind that clamp onto a tube of the bike and
allow positioning flexibility, and the lesser expencive stands that the
bike rest on the stand in one position. I did leave one out that's the
workstand I use. Two hooks on the cellar ceiling with a quick release
cinch straps that you can get a a camping store. Cheap but not very
stable. Prices range from $50.00 for the one postion floor stand to
$150.00 for the deluxe multi-position model w/tool tray.

How often are you going to use it and how much $'s I want to spend.
I think I'd rather spend the money on a good wheel truing stand, and
make do with my make shift method of a work stand.

Ps "BICYCLING" magazine has an article on "Designing a Home Shop". With a list
of tools and what not. Also a short bit about buying a repair stand.

I have a park stand and I think it cannot be beat. 'course it is a bit
    expensive.

I have a Park consumer stand. It's not that much more than the
Blackburn, and it has a quick release handle. I work on bikes 2-3
times a month and have had no problems getting any type of bike,
from kids to adult, in the stand. The Park is well worth the $.

I have a blackburn and have found it to be very useful and easy to
store. I recommend it or the Park(based on inputs from friends).
