The army of volunteers, public agencies, and private organizations that
make the tour possible, are once again rearing up for this spectacular start
of th bicycling season. We expect over 23,000 participants on this festive
occasion - riding all styles of bicycles - unicycles, penny-farthings,
tandems, recumbenst, and human powered vehicles. They will be coming from
all across the United States and from overseas.
Two dollars of your registration fee will also benefit the development of
the New York International Youth Hostel, which opened in January. This
historic landmark building is located on West 103rd street and Amsterdam
Avenue in Manhattan and will become the nation's flagship hostel. It
houses 480 beds, a public restaurant, cafeteria, AYH's offices and outdoor
store, public gardens and a not-for-profit conference center. The hostel
will provide much needed inexpensive overnight accomodations for travelers
from all around the world as well as providing facilities for other New York
area non-profit organizations.
To sign up for the tour, send the names and address of each participant
along with $7.00 per person (please make checks payable to American Youth
Hostels). You will receive detailed information about the tour along with
T-shirt and vest vouchers in mid-April.
Volunterrs Needed For The Tour
AYH needs hundreds of volunteers to help make the Five Boro Bike Tour a
success. We can use your assistance before, during, and after the ride
in every aspect of the event. We need friends to help with publicity,
bike repair, set-up crews, first aid support, answering phones and more.
In addition, both riding and non-riding marshals are needed on the day of
the tour. No matter what your riding ability, we can use your help.
Volunteer marshals are a key part of the team that ensures the success of
this incredible event.
If you have any time that you can give to help with the tour, please call
AYH at (212)932-2300 and leave your name and telephone number. With your
assistance, this will continue to be the worlds best bike tour.

| I guess after all the whining I did about getting the information
I ought to show some interest. Thanks for the info. Myself and two
of my children will be up in the Gotham City.

| David,
I'm planning on coming to NY for this ride also. My inlaws live
in Manhattan (28th and 8th) so I have a convenient place to stay.
With 23,000 expected riders do you think we can even attempt to
meet.
