I'm thinking of buying a Bianchi Tangent (1989 model -- 15% off -- they want $680 or so) and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about it. This bike was described to me as a "hybrid" -- it combines features of both mountain and touring bikes. I'm primarily interested in commuting in a city, but I also plan to do a little light-duty touring. Anyone have any advice? Suggestions of other bikes are welcome. - Rob Urban P.S.: This bike resides at the Bicycle Exchange (Harvard Sq.) -- does this place have a good reputation?

Another model to look at is the TREK 720. It has the MT-bike bars and stem with this years under the bar shifters. Not as much money as the Bianchi. Worth a look. | |||||

Does anyone know of any hybrids which will accept the Bruce Gordon Rock 'n Road tire (something like 700 x 42)? From reading the magazines last year, it sounded like Gordon was the only one to get the right balance between on-road and off-road riding. From most accounts it sounded like his tire was a large part of the magic. Bruce Gordon probably makes wonderful bicycles, but they are fairly expensive ($1100-$1200). I'm interested in putting together a "cheap" ($600-$700) hybrid which will have characteristics similar to the Gordon. All the hybrids I've seen are setup for fairly skinny rubber (Bianci, Trek, Cannondale, Fuji, Offroad, ...). The only one which might show promise is from Fisher. Any comments or suggestions would be welcome. /Larry |
