1394.0. "Route suggestions / company for Sannabelle (sp?) Fla." by EPIK::DANI () Wed Jan 03 1990 16:23

Any Floridians out there that can suggest routes 20-110 miles in the
Sannabell(don't know how to spell it) area of Florida?

I'll be there Jan 20-28 and would also enjoy any company I might be able to get.
I rode 6,000+ miles in 89 and have managed to get out on the rode atleast once
a week (except for one week in December) since last March. Considering the
weather we've had here in the northeast that's not bad! (Heah Ed... seems
as though you wimped out and headed south for better riding conditions. There is
a harde core of about 3-4 of us up here who still head out in the snow
and ice for a lunch time cruz/slide)

south of there. Sanibel is about in the south west part of Florida.

I spent two weeks in the Fort Myers Beach area at the beginning of December and
wish I was still there. I rented a road bike while I was there and rode out to
Sanibel. Their is a tool bridge ($3.00) to get on the island, however no bikes
are allowed. They suggested that I hitch a ride over with someone who has a
pickup truck. I tried this for a while with no luck. The next day my wife
drove me over. I had no problem hitching a ride back. Once on the island their
are bike paths throughout the island. This is the "only" way to see the island.
Off of Sanibel is another bike path called Summerlin. I believe out and back is
about 20 miles. South of Fort Myers is another bike path in Bonita Springs.

If you go to Fort Myers Beach their is a bike shop called 'Beach cycle and
repair' ask and they will give you a newsletter with time, date and location
of some group rides in the area.

Doug,

That's exactly the kind of information I've been looking for! Thanks! I'll
try to head to the Ft Meyers beach bike shop early on!

The pointers on other bike trails are super also!

I'll let you know how it goes!
