Seven Hills Wheelmen Fall Century - Sept 24 1989. Knights of Columbus Hall, 118 Meadow St. Spencer MA. 100 Mile - 7:30 75 Mile - 7:30 50 Mile - 8:30? 25 Mile - 9:30? A real nice century route, light rolling to rolling terrain. Light traffic and few turns make this a century to enjoy the scenery or do your best time. Ride goes through central MA, down to nothern Conn. Last I heard, route was slightly changed from last year to get off of route 20 in Sturbridge. Meadow St is approx 1 mile west (on your right) of Spencer center off of rt 9. There is a FAIR Dept and McDonalds (or Burger King) on the corner. Unfortunately I do not have any entry sheets, as I will be on a business trip all next week. Steve

Sounds like a great ride - I just did some mountain biking outside Aix-en-Provence and feel like doing a century this weekend. Are you logging in this week? If you are, could you indicate the entry fee. Thnaks, Kevin | |||||

I went on the 70 mile version of the century yesterday. With a relatively constant 15-25 mph 360 degree 'headwind,' it felt like a full century... :-) I got a late start, so opted for the shorter route. The course went west from Spencer on 9, then south to Connecticut on 67 to Stafford Springs. It then returned to Spencer via 19 (?), some Brookfield backroads, then Rte 49, making 70 miles. People doing the full century went west on 9 again, then north on a 30 mile loop, returning to the K of C via Rte 31. Squirrels and chipmunks had been out the night before, preparing the shoulders of the roads with branches and acorns, but they were unable to undo the fine arrowing done by the club. It really felt like fall (unlike last week's CRW century, with warm temps and high humidity). The scenery was nice -- I didn't realize Massachusetts had so many lakes. The foliage was just starting. With the cold snap, this weekend should be nice. It was a real low-key, friendly ride. I'd recommend it for next fall. |
