Last night I had a disappointing experience at the Nashbar outlet in
Needham. Nashbar has recently adopted a policy of pricing some items
higher in the store than in the catalog. When I tried to purchase a
Campy Chorus rear derailleur (see note 1198 for that story) I was
informed that the instore price was 79.95 versus the catalog price of
69.95. To register my protest I called Perfromance and under their
price matching policy bought it for the Nashbar price and saved the
sales tax as well. Nashbar catalog shipments to Mass must now pay the
state sales tax since they opened the outlet store. It is with some
disappointment that I have watched Nashbar drop brand names as they
grow their own label while I have begun to do business with Colorado
Cyclist and others.
So the morale of my story is check the store price before you make the
drive to Needham.
