1169.0. "help locating a touring rim" by CIMAMT::CHINNASWAMY (help save basselopes & puffalumps!) Wed May 17 1989 17:15

I have a need to replace a rim on my touring bike. It is a univega
sport tour and came with an array of different manuf. components.
I can't seem to locate the same type wheel anywhere. The stickers have
worn off so I don't know who the manufacturer is. All I can do is
draw its profile here:

				________
			       /	\
			 _____/ \_____
			/ \
			| |
			| |

The middle of the rim is bulged more roundly than shown. The tires are
27 x 1 1/4 for it. Any leads on the manufacturer or where I could find
a rim would be appreciated. I think it was a fairly popular rim since my
roomates lotus also has them (stickers are worn off of it too). I'll try
to take a closer look tonight and see if the manufacturer's name is
engraved on it somewhere.

Thanx
Mano

If it is not important to have an EXACT match you can get
a 27x1-1/4 Araya alloy rim for under $20 in many bike
shops. They have a shape similar to your diagram.

If you plan on keeping the old spokes (the only reason I can think
of aside from pure aesthetics for seeking a new rim that matches an
old one) you can remove a spoke and ask the shop if it will
work with your old hub and the new rim. For rear wheel bring one
spoke from each side... they may be different.
