We don't want to remind ourselves that we aren't outside getting
the physical exercise and mental relaxation that we need... Can
people hibernate?

...and I hope you'll appreciate that I've been holding back a wealth of
description on exhilarating weekend rides from the Cote d'Azur...
but maybe that would cheer people up?

Been up the Col de Vence lately? Tried the loop from Pre du Lac
to Gordon then up and over the "hill" and down into the backside
of Saint Vallier (spelling?) for R&R then down to Grasse and back
over to Pre du Lac. Of course the valleys running west from Grelier
(more bad spelling) and from Grelier les Neige are my favorites.
Hmmm, it's supposed to get over 50 degrees F. today. Maybe, I'll
just ...

Funny you should ask. Yesterday the Mistral shifted its angle a bit,
and the knife-sharp crystal clear air I'd been waiting for returned -
so I took a l-o-n-g lunch hour thusly: Sophia - Pre-du-Lac - Grasse
(bypass) - St. Vallier - Pas de la Faye (for the views of St. Tropez) -
back to St. Vallier - Col de Ferrier - Coussols - Gourdon - Sophia.
Only used up about 4 rolls of film and x-thousand calories, but it
was worth it.
I've done Greoulieres (my attempt at spelling) but not -les-Neiges -
it's on my list, though. Yes, nice valley... so cut off! Two weekends
ago I did Greoulieres to Col de Vence then down via Vence and Bord de Mer
(N98) to Antibes. Amazing how uninhabited and desert-like it is from
the pass to within about 1km of Vence - then, whammo.

La meteo pour aujourd'hui: max temp 11 deg. C at Nice (about 52F?).
That suffices. Hope you got some good miles riding in NH.

Best get out there today, Bob, to work off the nuclear chili I saw ya
wolfing down at the office Christmas luncheon today :-) :-)

Excuse me, but what does the Col de Vence have in common
with a chain ring. I initiated this note for the purpose of
procuring a round chain ring in exchange for a square one. I
go out of town for a few days and find that my note has been
turned into the Pre du Lac Routes File ?!? Whish you guys would
help me find a 50 tooth round ring instead of hacking up my
note with your memories and commentaries.....Did you say * 50 *
degrees..... Hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm......OK.....Tell me more :^)

| Well, you see, Jerry, we all knew that if you were to tour the
Col de Vance you would need a 50 tooth chain ring so we figured
that by discussing hills and dales of Southern Europe we could draw
interest to the basic reason for this note.
Btw, I have a 50 tooth Shimano 600 chainring but, planning to do
the Col do Vence at my earliest opportunity, I fear to part with
it.

939.10 | 50-tooth ring can be ordered from England | VISUAL::MILLING | Bob Milling, MKO2-2/K03, 264-2068 | Thu Dec 22 1988 13:30 | 15 |
| I also have a 50-tooth Shimano Dura-Ace chainring that I won't give up.
Wish I had it after my one and only trek up the Col de Vence. :-)
As it was, I didn't get off my 40-tooth inner ring for a week after
that climb!
I got mine last year from a mail-order outfit in England called
Freewheel. It's not as slow to get things from them as you might
expect as long as you supply a credit card number or an international
money order in pounds sterling with your order.
I expect that Nault's in Manchester can dig up a 50-tooth Shimano 600
ring from one of their U.S. suppliers. If not, give me a call I'll
let you borrow my Freewheel catalog.
