917.0. "Colnago-Athena Comments Here" by AIMHI::JSMITH (Bikes Spoke_n Here) Tue Nov 08 1988 08:23

    	I'm thinking about purchasing a new bike in the spring.
    I've kind of had my eye on a Colnago which I would equipe
    with Campy's new Athena group (except for the rear deraileur
    which would be Chorus to get the 32 teeth) to keep the cost
    around $1000.00. Anybody have any comments on Colnago, or
    the new Athena stuff?

917.1Chorus for big hillsUSCTR1::PJOHNSONTue Nov 08 1988 08:4210
    I have the Chorus group and it's nice to be able to put on a large
    freewheel if I know I'm going to be riding up a mountain. It doesn't
    shift as well as the Dura Ace stuff (don't ge me wrong, it still
    shifts very well), but I've grown to appreciate its capacity when I'm
    riding up Mt. Wachusset or in the Green Mountains of Vermont.

    I don't know about Athena, but I agree with your decision to go
    with Chorus.

917.2How many cogs on the freewheel?AIMHI::JSMITHBikes Spoke_n HereTue Nov 08 1988 11:248

    		Thats been my main concern, getting up big hills
    without having to go to a Touring or ATB shifting set-up. Thanks
    for the input. One question though. I understand that Dura Ace
    will be coming out with an 8 speed hub. How many will the Chorus
    accomodate and still work with the synchro levers?

    re .2

    I don't know about Synchro levers; I took mine off and substituted
    C-Record friction levers. You owe it to yourself to try the Dura
    Ace indexed shifting... it's amazing.

    I'm pretty sure Chorus is only good for six speeds, but I could
    be wrong.
