The two gaskets that provide the seal at the top of the pump housing on my Zefal Plus Floor Pump are shot. Right now I couldn't inflate a balloon let alone see 100+ PSI. After visiting several local bike shops as well as calling the 3rd Hand (mail order parts supply) I have found that the gaskets are not imported by the U.S. Zefal distributor. The gaskets (washers) seal the twin pump shafts as they go through the top of the pump housing and are 1 cm. inner diameter and 3 cm. outer daimeter and roughly 1/16" thick rubber. Has anyone else solved this problem and/or have alternative material suggestions? Thanks, Bob

Assuming the gaskets are rubber maybe an old inner tube might be cut to fit, or maybe one of those thin rubber gaskets used on trailer lights could be cut up... Tom | |||||

The most critical area should be the central hole. Fortunately rubber will stretch so your hole can be a bit under sized. You can cut a smooth hole in rubber with a sharpened piece of tube of the right diameter (or the next smaller size). You can buy brass tube (used for model aeroplane construction) at hobby shops for probably under $1. Spin the tube in a drill and apply a file (to the inside edge if possible) to sharpen the edge. Place the rubber on a wooden block and drive the sharpened pipe through it. |
