People needed for a group purchase of Campy components.
Having just bought a new frame I am going to start buying components
for it and put it together over the winter. I am going to be buying
mostly Campy Chorus with some C-record. Now since buying a group is
an expensive proposition I will be doing it a piece or two a month.
I have spoken to a few bike shops to see if they would be interested
in giving a discount for a group purchase of components. So, I am
looking for others who are building bikes, upgrading groups, or just
need to replace worn parts to get together on a group purchase.
I figured that a good goal would be to get "better than Bike Nashbar"
prices. I am not looking for any commitment yet but, if anyone is
interested in saving some money on Campy parts, or if you have any
suggestions, or know a dealer who could help us out send me mail
and I'll keep you updated as things progress. It would be helpful
if you included what parts that you might be interested in buying.

Just a small clue to your search.
Look in the back of Bicycling magazine, there are two mail-order
outfits that are selling C-record groups. One of them is selling
the whole group for under $1,000 !!!
Also, the price quote on the C-record brakes is really high,
(which is surprising for Bike Nashbar), but then again, the
Colorado Cyclist is selling their group with the Cobalto brakes.
These brakes are more than capable of holding their own in this
component group. The delta's are much too expensive, at least
right now anyway. Good luck on your parts search...

Sheesh! I wish I had seen this note before. I just built a bike
(only 400+ miles on it) and went with Chorus and C-Record Comps.
I do have plans to upgrade all the way to C-Record a bit at a time,
though. I just got Nashbar's catalogue yesterday. Their prices
don't exactly pump my nads. I did my thing at Gamache's in Fitch-
burg. I received a 10% discount on almost all of the components
(I saved over $200.00 - good customer), got terrific service and
a free FITKIT to boot. I figure I did as well as I was going to
anywhere else. If something goes wrong, no hassle, I just bring
it to them and they replace/adjust/whatever and I'm rocking and
rolling again.
What kind of savings potential do you think mass buying power will
offer?
I'm game if it makes sense.
