It happens every year about this time: I get the hots for a road bike. Lots of you have seen (read?) me in here expounding on the virtues (as well as other aspects) of mountain bikes, but I've decided to join you roadies at least part-time, anyway. I am looking at the Specialized Sirrus and a Trek 1200 right now, although I've only ridden the Sirrus. It really is nice, and I wouldn't buy anything with less than Shimano 105. I didn't think I could add much to note # 803 about the Specialized vs. Trek duel, but another bike under consideration for me is the Bianchi Trofeo (I suppose the spelling may be wrong, but I've never seen it spelled before, only pronounced, so I almost have an excuse). I realize that there's a significant price differential in these bikes, but I buy what I like (within reason), not what costs a particular dollar figure. I've ridden bikes costing much more than the Sirrus that haven't felt nearly as good. Does anyone have anything to say about the Trofeo? How about experience with the Suntour Accushift that comes on Bianchi bikes? .jim

Great bike, $695 @ Lorentzon Cycles in Peterborough, NH. Ofmega crank, Modolo brakes, Suntour Sprint 9000 derailleurs (felt better than Shimano 105) with ultra 7. Fast as the proverbial greased lightning: all you have to do is *think* about going faster, and you accelerate... well, not quite. Yes, I bought one last night. Bright green flashes seen in southern NH are likely to be me. See you on the road... .jim |
